Patong (Phuket) Sightseeing and Activities 2022

Aktualisiert: 19. Sept. 2022

A trip to Patong is just right for you, or you find a place that doesn't appeal to you. Like many other places in Thailand, this is due to mass tourism.

We chose Patong as our first stop after Bangkok. We think that despite the many negative aspects, Patong also has places and activities to offer that make it worth a visit. We want to convince you of this with this article.

So feel free to give us feedback if it worked and if you would consider a trip to Patong.

Sightseeing in Phuket

Big Buddha

You can find a 43-metre high white marble Buddha statue in the south of Phuket. It is one of the country's most famous statues and attracts many visitors. We recommend the trip because the view is breathtaking due to the hill's height.

Promthep Cape

We spent one of our most beautiful mornings at Promthep Cape. Half an hour before sunrise, we drove by scooter to the Cape and experienced a light we won't forget for a long time. If you don't have a problem getting up early, you should note this sight. If you do, you can also enjoy sunsets there. Fantastic, isn't it?

Bangla Road

Bangla Road is the place to be for nightlife in Patong. It stretches from the beach to the main street. It is the place to be if you're looking for a party. Be prepared for many promoters and pretty women trying to invite you to their bars or nightclubs. We always recommend that you decide for yourself where you want to spend your evening and not listen to them. You are also in the middle of the red light district, which you must be aware of. Besides bars and go-go bars, you will also find nightclubs with good DJs and events. During the day, something is also happening here, but Bangla Road only starts to shine after sunset.

Aircraft observation at Mai Kao Beach

A hotspot on social media. On the approach to Phuket, the planes are only a short distance above the ground. So a picture with the plane, beach and sea was a must-do for many during their Phuket holiday. However, since 2019 it has been forbidden to take photos within 300 metres. Nevertheless, the view is still worthwhile.

Thai Massage

Not a sight to see, but an experience that you should not miss during your trip to Thailand. You can easily find good studios on Google Maps. Just look at the most recent reviews. In general, massages in Thailand are very cheap and therefore popular. Studios and spas can be found almost everywhere, directly on the beach or roadside. We are both fans of the traditional full-body Thai massage, the back-neck-shoulder and the foot massage (especially after a long day of sightseeing). Take your time and switch off for an hour. You'll feel great afterwards.

Surf House Patong Beach

Amidst the restaurants and bars, you'll find an activity in Patong that you can rarely do in Thailand. The Surf House produces artificial waves that you can ride on your surfboard with the help of instructors. Whether you try it yourself or leave it to the others and watch over a delicious meal and drink, you will have a lot of fun.

Thaiboxing

Muay Thai belongs to Thailand like no other sport. In Patong, there is Bangla Boxing and the Patong Boxing Stadium. During the day, pickup trucks with loud megaphones and advertisements drive along the beach road. Large and small events take place here. We recommend a visit if you are looking for an action-packed activity in the evening.

After sightseeing, you should relax, so we recommend that you.

5 must-see beaches in Phuket

Freedom Beach

You can reach this beach by a longtail boat from the southern end of Patong Beach. Since it is difficult to go on foot and there are fewer tourists, you will be lucky enough to enjoy the white sand and turquoise water in peace. Both ends of the beach are worth snorkelling, so take your gear. To regain energy, you can eat delicious burgers at the southern end.

Yanui Beach

After enjoying the sunrise at Promthep Cape, we went to Yanui Beach after breakfast. If you come in the morning, you can better appreciate the bay divided by a rock formation. Snorkelling equipment and kayaks are available for hire on-site. We recommend you go snorkelling as we found a wide variety of fish on site. However, from midday onwards, the beach will be crowded.

Paradise Beach

Another beautiful and small beach south of Patong is Paradise Beach. Before Corona, this beach was crowded because it became more popular due to the Phuket Full Moon Parties. After Corona, it became quieter again. If the main beach is too crowded, it is worth going to a smaller bay to the left over a hill and stairs.

Kamala Beach

In contrast to our first two recommendations, Kamala Beach is in the north of Patong. It is only slightly smaller than Patong Beach and therefore offers much space. Since it is 10km from Patong, you have a good chance for a quiet beach day. There are good restaurants and hotels along the road.

Merlin Beach

Our insider tip! A large Marriott Hotel stretches out in front of Merlin Beach. Therefore, many think that it is a private beach. However, this is not the case. If you enter the beach on Google Maps, you will see a path east of the hotel that ends at a massage studio and a restaurant. Then, it will take you to the public beach. A long and narrow bay to relax in.

Patong Beach

As in the introduction, the same applies here. You either love it or hate it. Patong Beach is a gorgeous beach in itself, but during the season, it is overrun by tourists, so don't expect peace here. It can't be left off our list, though, as we enjoyed some of the most beautiful sunsets of our trip here. In addition, excellent accommodation for every budget, good restaurants and bars, and small supermarkets are never far away. You can reach them just by walking across the street. Patong is a place where everything you need is in one place.

Relaxing includes good food.

our Restaurant Tip

You can find good food everywhere in Patong. There is something for every taste.

However, suppose you want to experience the authentic Thai cuisine on Patong Beach. In that case, we recommend you visit the following restaurant (if you type the Thai name into Google Maps, you will find it. Or you can use the address below).

Name: Mae Manee Mokata - แม่มณีหมูกระทะ

Correct address: 17 237/1 ตำบลป่าตอง อำเภอกะทู้ ภูเก็ต 83150

You have to get used to Thai food. You may be disappointed sometimes, or it may be too spicy. But the more you try, the sooner you'll know what suits your taste.

Be sure to try Thai BBQ and Thai Hot Pot.

The beauty of both dishes is that you prepare them fresh at the table, making the meal even more of an experience. You should find out how to prepare them beforehand or ask the restaurant staff, who are usually happy to help.

our Hotel Tip

We recommend the Sea Pearl Beach Resort. It is located at the lower end of Patong Beach and in the mid-price category at ~€42/night. It's a lovely open building with large rooms, is on the beach road, and has a small pool. When you check-in, ensure you get a room that is not on the street.

Have a great time in Phuket, and see you next on a beautiful little group of islands, ขึ้นเร็ว ๆ นี้!
